The correct answer is clearly Sisko.

If I have to choose between the two, then Picard.

With that said…

http://jmtresaugue.blogspot.com/2013/09/11-reasons-why-captain-janeway-is-best.html

1. Janeway offered amnesty to her enemies.

2. Janeway held together a crew comprised of two opposing ideological viewpoints.

3. Janeway treated The Doctor as a sentient being with all the rights and privileges associated with such a status.

4. Janeway maintained her dignity after making lizard babies with Tom Paris.

5. Janeway lost far fewer crew members than Kirk.

6. Janeway was the first captain since Kirk to rise to the rank of admiral.

7. Janeway was not driven into a murderous rage when dealing with Neelix.

8. Janeway brought resolution to the Q Civil War.

9. Q selected Captain Janeway as his son’s godmother.

10. Captain Janeway faced the largest Borg threat with the least resources.

11. Janeway’s 75 year mission was completed in 7 years.

I was bored at work, so I thought I’d debate a couple of your points their Mopsus.

Mopsus - 09 June 2017 06:41 PM

1. Janeway offered amnesty to her enemies.

As have Kirk, Picard and Sisko. And on more then one occasion, Janeway has driven her enemies to ruin.

Mopsus - 09 June 2017 06:41 PM

2. Janeway held together a crew comprised of two opposing ideological viewpoints.

Sisko also had to meld a crew of differing organisations together. Remember that not long before the start of DS9, Kira was a member of the Bajoran resistance with a completely different set of values than the members of the Star Fleet crew.

As for Kirk and Picard, they never had this task to try to accomplish. So we can only conjecture as to their success (I’m pretty sure Picard would have managed it with aplomb)!

Mopsus - 09 June 2017 06:41 PM

3. Janeway treated The Doctor as a sentient being with all the rights and privileges associated with such a status.

Not at first. In fact it was Kes who insisted that Janeway treat the Doctor as a sentient member of the crew,

Mopsus - 09 June 2017 06:41 PM

4. Janeway maintained her dignity after making lizard babies with Tom Paris.

That’s debatable. I’m pretty sure the entire crew would just rather forget the incident even occured!

Mopsus - 09 June 2017 06:41 PM

5. Janeway lost far fewer crew members than Kirk.

According to Memory Alpha, Kirk lost 45 crew men during his 5 year mission (that we saw die). We saw 33 members of Voyager die on screen and we know of others (Chief Engineer, entire Medical staff) that we didn’t.

In addition, we’ve seen Voyager destroyed completely on more than one occasion with Janeway or someone else hitting the reset button and having them brought back to life.

In short - it’s not a fair comparison.

Mopsus - 09 June 2017 06:41 PM

6. Janeway was the first captain since Kirk to rise to the rank of admiral.

That we see on screen. We do know that other Captains would have been promoted. Kirk did give Picard the advise in Generations of not getting promoted.

Sisko went from being a Commander to Captain to a major figure in the Dominion War. If he hadn’t been turned into a Prophet at the end of DS9, I’m pretty sure he would be an Admiral too.

Mopsus - 09 June 2017 06:41 PM

7. Janeway was not driven into a murderous rage when dealing with Neelix.

OK - I’ll give you this one wink

Mopsus - 09 June 2017 06:41 PM

8. Janeway brought resolution to the Q Civil War.

A civil war that she was partly responsible for in the first place! Everything was OK with the Continuum when Picard dealt with Q.

Mopsus - 09 June 2017 06:41 PM

9. Q selected Captain Janeway as his son’s godmother.

For all we know, Q asked Picard to be his Godfather!

Mopsus - 09 June 2017 06:41 PM

10. Captain Janeway faced the largest Borg threat with the least resources.

Captain Janeway was able to ally herself with the Borg in order to deal with an even greater threat - just so she could pass through their space.

In the meantime Sisko had to deal with multiple conflicts involving first the Klingons, then the Cardassian/Dominion/Breen alliance.

Sisko was able to bring the Romulans into the war on the side of the Federation AND Klingons. Not an easy feat considering the years of hostility all three have shown each other.

Mopsus - 09 June 2017 06:41 PM

11. Janeway’s 75 year mission was completed in 7 years.

With a LOT of help along the way!

THIS IS NOT SPAM!

So would the viewers ...
