Hopefully everyone will tap the link and read the first entry of the Developer Diary that we are being allowed to see. I will briefly share my thoughts on each of the 3 sections of this diary entry which I truly enjoyed reading:

I.  THE GAME DESIGN NEXUS

I can’t wait to get to the Timelines Nexus and I hope that it doesn’t come along every 39 to 40 years as in the movie Star Trek Generations. In the Timelines Nexus I hope and believe that many of my Sci-Fi wishes will be fulfilled. I want to get caught in that “Temporal ribbon” of energy that Tim Crosby mentioned in the Diary.

II.  ADDING YOUR TECNOLOGICAL DISTINCTIVENESS TO OUR OWN

I’m glad that the developers are looking closely at game tech (kinda like mimicking the philosophy of the Borg) that they will use to build the game. Another thing that I’m glad they are thoroughly looking at, and I quote:

[ “We’re looking at the core principles and viewpoints of Star Trek—the optimism for the future, the belief in equality and progress, the love of exploration, and the ever-expanding horizons—and also how different characters interpret that universe and will react to the moral quandaries they face”.]

III.  LOOKING INTO THE FUTURE

It is good that Disruptor Beam is still diligently collecting ideas to incorporate into the game to mold the future of how it will be played. The iconic characters, ...the explorable galaxy, ...and the importance that Disruptor Beam is placing on how and why different people play games is something that this fan appreciates hearing.

I’m reserving some extra log space on my PADD and in the Cap Denslog book for these Developer Diaries. .......... Great log entry for Developer Diary .......... # One.

Shan, a quick bit of feedback.  You’ll want to change the link to the facebook page to:
https://www.facebook.com/startrektimelines

instead of:
https://www.facebook.com/GameOfThronesAscent

There has been all of this talk about how the devs are reading the forums for player feedback, and ideas.  But so far we’ve been talking about the game randomly, pie in the sky, with no guidance.  I realize that the devs don’t want to become embroiled in forum debate or bombarded by eager fans in their private message box, but we need a little more from them.

If Shan could jumpstart discussions on certain topics the devs want fan feedback on, we as a community would jump right on board and discuss until everyone was sick of the topic, and then we’d keep discussing. shock Look at the catchphrases thread.  High participation, multiple users, one of the more successful topics that we’ve had.

One particularly attractive thing about the STT concept is the way it embraces and parlays the reality that gamers aren’t just 13-22 boys these days.

Sure, there will be ‘splozhuns and combat (it wouldn’t be Trek w/o splozhuns and phaser duels!)—but the demographics of gaming have become much more gender-balanced over the years. Not everyone wants to be a Klingon warrior (cf Alexander!), but most MMORPG/Strategy games are still set up around the fanboy mentality.

The Trek universe and the Roddenberry Vision are the closest thing pop culture’s got to the OPPOSITE of sexism (at base… discussion of the costumes is a whole ‘nother thread). Which is so cool for the underappreciated but often $juicy$ demographic of women gamers.

It won’t just be grrrrrls/women playing the CNS and MED PCs, just like it won’t be just boyz/men playing Klingons. But BRAV@ to the devs for crafting a game that has potential to be anti-sexist from the ground up. Over half the human race salutes you!

I know, nothing I can do personally for it though but it has been mentioned to the person in charge smile

As for jump starting discussions, I would love to but at the moment I fall a bit short.

It will be like this for a while longer and I apologize for that.
We are busy preparing for the next 2 cons as well.

There are plenty of threads that are not design inquiries per say but where the Community’s input would give us an idea of where your preferences lie.

Thank you for being here smile

keep the diaries coming. I’m very interested in how things like this develop it might even be cool to do a video update every now and then. Just to give us that can’t go to the cons a chance to meet you guys, and maybe a backstage look at what you guys are working on once you get a bit farther along in creation of the game. Or even some video of the cons themselves. Stuff like concept art, and maybe some specific instances where you have incorperated fan suggestions. But Like I said not until you are farther along in development. I know that won’t be for a while.
